Using FoxPro for our database programs, we can support a large range of system configurations,
from the smallest start-up to the largest directory publisher.
Our commitment to creating a system that is both powerful and portable led us to select C++ for our composition and typesetting
programs and FoxPro for our database programs. The C programming language is the language of choice throughout the publishing industry for almost all-typesetting and graphic development. C++ is a
dynamic, evolving language known for its transportability and powerful graphics applications. We use powerful networks, support a virtually unlimited number of users simultaneously, and still
perform all operations quickly and efficiently.
PostScript is the standard for graphical data interchange. Most of the popular graphic applications can create Encapsulated PostScript (EPS)
files. Yellow Magic is the only yellow page system that has an integrated PostScript interpreter, thus allowing screen preview of individual listings, display ads, and complete pages exactly as they will
be printed, showing all the typefaces and graphics! We use graphics created by most major programs in the world that adhere to PostScript standards. Yellow Magic can use any PostScript type 1 font and
can print on any PostScript laser printer, image setter, or direct-to-plate machine.
Most yellow page system suppliers consider their internal data structures proprietary. With them, you
may own the system, but you do not have access to your data except through the licensed software. In this case, you must depend on the supplier for data extraction's and reports, often at hefty
additional costs for custom programming. We believe in putting you in control of your data, and to that end Yellow Magic was created with open architecture. Our data structure is maintained in industry
standard formats and can be accessed by you, using any number of third party, "off-the-shelf" software packages. These include report generators, spreadsheets, mailing systems, and word
processing programs. Many of our users extract and produce reports on system-maintained data using Excel or Lotus 123. Data structures can be viewed within Yellow Magic.
