Typesetting and Paginating your Book with Yellow Magic

When you use Yellow Magic, the composition of a directory starts with the book's Command File. The Command File defines all of a book's typographic and page layout specifications, from mastheads to the appearance of every listing of every type. A single Command File includes multiple sections, each representing a different section within a book. Once a Command File is created for a particular directory, it can usually serve as the foundation for all other directories of the same size. The Command File provides you with total control when it comes to the appearance of your books. As your directory grows, the Command File gives you the ability to adjust column sizes and type fonts at the stroke of a key.

Yellow Magic offers unsurpassed flexibility when it comes time to typeset your directory. Yellow Magic produces fully-paginated white pages and complete yellow page galleys, with all in-column items in place, including HS and trademark items complete with logos. White pages and yellow page galleys are composed in PostScript for imaging in a PostScript laser printer or imagesetter. When you install a high- resolution printer, your typeset white pages are produced camera-ready. If you prefer, you can also send the composed white pages to a file and use a typesetter to produce final copy. Yellow page galleys may be fully composed and printed, ready for paste-up, or they may be passed on to Sleight-of-Hand, our interactive pagination program. Sleight-of-Hand produces yellow pages fully paginated with all your yellow page items and display ads in place. You also have the option to send your completed book directly to your printer on a disk or by modem.

Our versatility doesn't stop here. With Yellow Magic, you don't have to wait until the end of production to typeset and view your product. You can, and are encouraged to, compose and typeset white or yellow pages at any time during a book's production for proofing purposes. White pages can be composed with or without free listings and viewed on screen—at any time. Compose white pages for the whole book, for a specified page range, by individual white page section, for a selected telephone number prefix, or by selected date ranges based on when the contract was entered. Our automatic pagination feature handles multiple white page sections with ease, giving you complete control over the page numbering between sections. Typeset yellow pages may be produced with or without free listings, for a specified date range, and for a single heading classification or a range of classifications. Using Yellow Magic's typesetting and pagination features, you stay in control.

And there's more. Create an index for your heading classifications to put the finishing touch on your directory. In addition, using Yellow Magic, you can create a complete telephone cross-reference section. Our programs don't limit you when it comes to the appearance of your cross-references. We give you total control over each entry, from the format of the telephone number to the information included in your telltales, so that your cross-references will appear just the way you want them. Using our color capabilities, you can define color in both white and yellow pages for viewing on screen and print the pages with color using a color device for proofing purposes. In addition, you can create spot color or 4-color process separations for your white pages. Spot or process color separations are also available for Yellow Pages using Sleight-of-Hand. You may also create black and white proofs, providing an economical alternative for producing proofs when using either spot or process color.
